The Holidays are approaching…2

I asked this question last year and I guess I’ll ask it again…What’s your favorite holiday and why is it your favorite?

College of Nanoscale Science & and Engineering…WOW!11

Twenty four QMS Biology students visited the College of Nanoscale Science & Engineering (CNSE) @ UAlbany yesterday.  What an impressive facility!

What is a “nano”? It’s the opposite of a “giga.” A giga is a billion times, a nano is one billionth.

What do they do at CNSE? For one thing, they make the “chips” that run computers, cell phones, ipods…They also are involved in medical research…treating cancer and diabetes.

Bio. students, what did you think about CNSE and Nanotechnology?

RPI and Bill Nye5

Well, I’m off to RPI with Patrick O. And Ben C. to the Tech Valley Kids Summit. Bill Nye is the key note speaker!

The goal of this kids summit is to make middle school kids aware of all the “way cool” engineering opportunities that are right here in the greater Albany area.

In my classes, we frequently discuss engineering as an awesome career. Hopefully the Kids Summit today will be a huge success and future summits will be planned to include more than 2 representatives per district. I wish I could take all of you!!!

See ya later…

Alternative Energy17

Went to Barton Mines this past Friday to see the garnets but more importantly, to see the site of the proposed Adirondack Wind Park. They are currently gathering wind speed and temperature data (to justify the building of the wind turbines ) via a weathermast.

Wind turbines are fabulous. Not only do they emit no pollution…they are really quite beautiful. The majority of people who have windturbines in their community think they are great!

I really hope the Adirondack Wind Park becomes a reality. Windturbines are way more beautiful than smokestacks!!!

What do you think of wind turbines?

What kinds of alternative fuels/energy are you aware of?

What can YOU do to decrease your use of fossil fuels?

Would you be willing to do it?
